in Education

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has relieved Prof Victor Ecoma of his appointment as the Head of Department (HOD) Fine and Applied Arts.

This is in line with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Florence Obi’s commitment to ensure students who graduate from the University are sent forth on time.

CONVERSEER gathered that Prof Ecoma’s sack was approved by Prof Obi.

According to a statement by the Registrar of the institution, Mr Gabriel Egbe, on Monday, Ecoma was sacked as the HOD of Fine and Applied Arts because he failed to present students from his department for the 36th Convocation Ceremony.

The statement added that Prof Echeta Christian Chemezie will take over as the new HOD of Fine and Applied Arts.

The statement read, “Prof Victor Ecoma’s failure to fulfil his duty and ensure the participation of his students in the important academic event has been deemed a glaring act of negligence and incompetence.

“As a result, the university administration has found it necessary to terminate his appointment with immediate effect.

“In light of this development, the Vice-Chancellor has promptly directed Prof Ecoma to hand over all university properties in his possession to his successor, Prof Echeta Christian Chemezie, who has been appointed to assume the position.”
