A security guard with the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Damilola Otegba, has been arrested for alleged attempted sexual assault of a six-year-old girl in the state.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State police command. Omolola Odutola, told journalists on Thursday the suspect took the minor to his workplace and attempted to defile her.
She said: “A private security guard left his security post and tried to engage in unlawful activities with a six-year-old girl at night inside a university building.
“The suspect’s actions were interrupted by the female student, who unknowingly saved the child from further harm.
“The police investigation revealed that on January 15, 2025, at about 10:10 PM, Sherifat Bakare received a call from her younger brother, Seyi Bakare, who was in charge of her shop on the FUNAAB campus.
“The six-year-old girl ran into the shop, visibly frightened, and revealed that Damilola Otegba had taken her upstairs to his workplace, where he allegedly undressed and attempted to assault her.
“The victim was taken to the school clinic for medical evaluation, and doctors have been contacted. The suspect is currently in custody and will be transferred to the SCID for further investigation.
“He will be transferred to the SCID for further investigation following the preliminary inquiry conducted by the crime section of FUNAAB Harmony Divisional headquarters.”
