We want to produce next Calabar Municipality Chairman – APC Group

An assemblage known as the All Progressive Congress (APC) Legacy Group, Calabar Municipality Chapter has demanded that it be given the right to produce the next chairman of Calabar Municipal Council.

The group made the demand on Thursday in Calabar when it paid a courtesy visit to Chief Felix Idem, leader of the party in Calabar Municipal Council to congratulate him on his new position in the party.

It would be recalled that Idem was affirmed leader of the party at the council level during a meeting by members of the party on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Comrade Iso Edim said the APC Legacy Group was an assemblage of members of the original parties that formed the APC.

Edim noted that these were the members who had been loyal to the party through thick and thin over the years until some new members defected to the party in the state in 2021 and highjacked the party structure.

He said while they supported them so as not to cause division in the party in the state, all they asked for is the opportunity to produce the next chairman of Calabar Municipality.

According to him, “The next chairman of Calabar Municipality should come from constituency 1, that is to say, from Ward 1 to Ward 5 of Calabar Municipality.

“Also, the next chairman should be a real Qua son as the House of Assembly Member, Hon. Stanley Nsemo is a non-Qua, so as to strike a balance as it has always been,” he said.

He noted that while that was all they were asking for as a group, never again would they allow leaders who were square pegs in round holes.

Responding, Idem thanked them for the visit and for affirming him as the leader of the party in the council

He also used the opportunity to call on other members of the party to join hands with them to grow the party in the council.

He said APC has come to stay and that anybody who thinks he can wrestle power from the party both at the national and state levels was making a mistake.

He called on the members of the group to put the council together because they were a people of integrity and truth adding that gone were the days when they believed in thuggery.

He added that Calabar is a peaceful City and if they were united it would give the governor more room to carry out plans and programs that would develop Calabar Municipality as they all want.
