Calabar, Cross River State – The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has described the outgoing Registrar of the University of Calabar Mr Gabriel Egbe, as an exceptional being and astute administrator.
Prof. Obi made the statement during a valedictory event in honour of the outgoing Registrar held at the University International Conference Centre in Calabar.
While commending Egbe’s exceptional contributions, she noted that it has significantly advanced the University’s progress.
This is even as she maintained that Mr Egbe, as the custodian of the University’s law, policies, and status, demonstrated a deep understanding of his role and provided informed guidance when needed.
“The Registrar, who is the custodian of the University law, policies, and status, knows his position; he always took his time to study and adequately gives information in this regard when called on and didn’t fail in his duty,” she said.
The varsity administrator who congratulated the Registrar for successfully serving his term stressed that every worker’s prayer should be to exit office in peace and good health
She, however, called on other administrative staff of the institution to emulate Egbe’s giant strides recorded as Registrar, especially his dedication to duty.
In his remarks, Deputy Governor of Cross River, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey applauded the outgoing registrar for the exceptional service rendered to the institution, stressing that his experience will prepare him for more tasks.
In his valedictory speech, Egbe appreciated the management and staff for deeming it fit to honour his exit after a successful tenure as the Registrar of the institution.
He encouraged leaders to foster an enabling environment and demonstrate commitment to their duties.
“If you are leading, try to create an enabling environment for people around you, and also, be part of your boss’s success story,” he said,
He, however, expressed gratitude to the management, staff, colleagues, and family for their support during his tenure as Registrar of the University.
In his speech, Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, while congratulating the outgoing Registrar for a successful tenure, said he is encouraged by his records, which show he had an outstanding tenure.
He charged participants to exhibit a high level of professionalism in discharging their duties and delivering their services to the best of their ability.
The valedictory guest Lecturer, Sen. Stephen Odey PhD (Commissioner for Education), who spoke on the theme: “Contemporary Challenges in the University System and the Coping Strategies,” said the challenges in the University are numerous which cannot be achieved in the near future.
He advocated for increased funding, creative internal revenue drives and prudent resource management to meet some of the challenges the University faces.
He noted that Egbe’s impact on the University’s administrative landscape will serve as a testament to his future endeavours.
Chairman of the ceremony, Dr Joseph Edet, described the outgoing Registrar as a professional administrator who significantly shaped the administrative landscape of the institution and whose legacy stands as a testament to all.
Also speaking at the event, the chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr Citizen Ini Ekpo described Mr Egbe as one who was impactful.
The event also featured the presentation of gifts to the outgoing Registrar and a cultural dance display.
