Ex-Real Madrid Vice President Juan Miguel passes on

Former Vice President of Real Madrid Football Club, Juan Miguel Villar Mir, has passed on.

According to a statement by the club, Juan passed away on Saturday at age 92.

“Juan Miguel Villar Mir has passed away at the age of 92. May he rest in peace.”

“Real Madrid C. F., its president and its board of directors would like to express their deepest regrets at the passing of Juan Miguel Villar Mir, and their condolences to his family and loved ones,” the statement read in part.

Juan Miguel Villar Mir was vice-president of Real Madrid in 1995, during the presidency of Ramón Mendoza, and in 2006 he stood as a candidate for election to the club’s presidency.

He was a member of Real Madrid for 43 years, dating back to September 1981. He was Real Madrid’s 10,661st member.

Juan Miguel Villar Mir held a doctorate in civil engineering, a degree in law and a professorship.

He was a businessman and a leading academic in Spain’s recent history, who also held positions as Vice President for Economic Affairs and Minister of Finance in the Spanish Government between 1975 and 1976.
