Nigerian Ajayi finishes 1st in men’s 100m race to reach semifinals at 2024 Paris Olympics

19-year-old Kayinsola Ajayi of Nigeria has reached the men’s 100-metre heat 5 semifinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ajayi, who hails from Ikorodu in Lagos, in an exceptional debut, came first in 100 metres heat 5, beating the reigning Olympic Champion, Marcell Jacobs of Italy.

He and another Nigerian, Favour Ashe, are through to the semifinals.

“No pressure. I’ve worked hard for this, it’s my time to showcase my talent,” Ajayi said after winning the men’s 100m heat 5 at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday.

He left Lagos in January this year to school in the United States at Auburn University, and now he will be competing in the semifinals of men’s 100m at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
