Olumba Olumba urges leaders to embrace godliness, calls for restraint amid protests

Olumba Olumba Obu, Leader of the Brotherhood of Cross and Star (BCS), has urged national leaders to govern with the fear of God, emphasising the need for integrity and justice in leadership.

His call came in response to the ongoing 10-day #EndBadGovernance protest that began on August 1st.

Obu addressed the issue during a press conference held on Friday in Calabar, marking the 66th anniversary of Eton Day, a significant event for the Brotherhood.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Eton Day, also known as the “March of the Redeemed,” commemorates the group’s first march from Eton Street to Mbukpa Road in Calabar, which took place in August 1958.

Speaking through the BCS Spokesman, Mr Amah Williams, Obu reminded leaders that they are accountable to God and must lead with humility and righteousness.

He warned that leaders who fail to walk in the ways of God should be aware that their actions are being watched and judged by a higher power.

“Leaders must understand that true power lies not in domination or control but in the ability to listen, understand, and act in the best interest of all.

“The people cannot be ignored, nor can the divine mandate to lead with justice, compassion, and integrity,” he stated.

The leader of BCS also appealed to the protesters, urging them to exercise restraint and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

He emphasised that God does not condone unlawful actions and encouraged peaceful dialogue as the path forward.

“The time has come for leaders to embrace a new paradigm that prioritizes dialogue over discord, empathy over ego, and the common good over personal gains,” Obu added.

He concluded by calling for a national commitment to reconciliation, humility, and the shared values that unite people as a global community.
