Abia State Federal House of Representatives member, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, may lose his seat after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Nkwonta, who represents Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency’s defection was announced on the floor of the House during plenary by the Speaker, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Reacting to the defection, the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Aliyu Madaki, quoting a section of the constitution, called for Nwonta’s seat to be declared vacant.
In response, the Speaker told Madaki that he was aware of a faction in the PDP.
CONVERSEER reports that Nkwonta is a first-term Member in the 10th House of Representatives elected in the 2023 National Assembly election.
