NYSC member empowers 60 students with digital skills

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Rilwan Amos Yakubu, has empowered no fewer than 60 students with digital skills in Anambra State.

Yakubu who is serving with Fides Media, Okpuno, empowered the students with skills in videography and photography as part of his NYSC community development project.

CONVERSEER reports that Yakubu, a graduate of the Department of English and Literature at the Federal University, devoted three months of his service year to organising intensive theoretical and practical sessions with students drawn from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Community Secondary School, Okpuno, Capital City Secondary School, Okpuno, Debino Amura Vocational Institute, Okpuno, Prime Zee International Academy, Okpuno and Rehabort International College, Okpuno.

“Out of the 60 graduands, 8 were judged exceptional, and would be further trained for one month where the overall best would emerge,” Yakubu said.

Speaking at the occasion, Mrs Blessing Ekene, Anambra State NYSC Coordinator, Iruma, described Yakubu as an asset to the country, taking advantage of his exposure to NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to empower the selected students in digital videography and photography.

Ekene enjoined the benefiting students to scale up the skills acquired and aim at being self-reliant, particularly at the prevailing economic situation in the country.

Yakubu’s employer, who is the Director of Fides Media, Okpuno, Rev. Fr. Robert Aniagboso, appreciated the exceptional qualities of the Corps Member which he demonstrated not only in the execution of assigned responsibilities at his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) but also in the training of the students to become digital literates in videography and Photography.

Fr. Aniagboso promised to employ the best out the 8 students shortlisted for extended studies at the Fides Media.
