Dry Cleaner Arrested For Alleged Kidnapping In Calabar

A dry cleaner (laundry serviceman), Gabriel James has been arrested for alleged kidnapping by the Police in Cross River.

James, who operates a laundry service at Edibe Edibe in Calabar South Local Government Area of the state, was arrested on Tuesday night.

He is the third member of a kidnapping gang that has been terrorising the Calabar metropolis.

CONVERSEER reports that the kidnapping gang were responsible for the abduction of the wife of a popular car dealer, simply identified as Mrs Aliu.

Two members of the gang were earlier arrested on Tuesday the Anti Cultism and Kidnapping Squad (Dragon Squad), a tactical unit of the Nigeria Police led by SP Chukwuma Ogini.

SP Irene Ugbo, Police Public Relations Office in the state said the suspect has made a confessional statement on his role in the abduction of Mrs Aliu.

SP Ugbo further said that the suspect tried to escape when the Dragon Squad took on him.

She said: “He has confessed that he participated in the kidnapping of several people, including Mrs Aliu.

“He also confessed to having received his share from the ransom paid by Mrs Aliu’s husband via an account that was provided by the leader of their gang.

“He will be charged to court alongside two others who were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday.”
