Calabar, Nigeria – A 48-year-old man identified as Mallam Adamu Ibrahim Umaru, has been remanded for allegedly raping and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter in Cross River State.

Umaru was remanded in a detention facility by the Calabar Magistrate Court-1, presided over by Chief Magistrate Mercy Ene, on Friday.

Converseer learned that the suspect, Umaru is a native of Bundugudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State and resides at No. 27 Edem Odo Street, Calabar, Cross River State capital.

He was said to have allegedly had canal knowledge of his daughter (name withheld) without due consent.

Chief Magistrate Ene remanded the suspect, following the hearing on experte motion filed by the Police Prosecutor, O. S. Umoren.

According to Umore, the experte motion became necessary in order for the defendant to be remanded in prison custody until the completion of the investigation on the matter.

According to The Nation, the Prosecutor said that the motion was pursuant to section 4 of the Police Act 2020 and also the Cross River State Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 2016.

However, the motion was opposed by the counsel to the defendant, Mohammed Shaibu, with the argument that he was not duly served the motion before the arraignment of his client.

The Chief Magistrate subsequently granted the motion supported by eight paragraphs and adjourned the case to December 3, 2024.

Recall that Aminu was earlier reported to be allegedly involved in an attempted murder case, at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
