Gov Otu approves empowerment of 2000 Cross Riverians in catfish farming

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has approved the training and empowerment of 2000 interested Cross Riverians in catfish farming.

CONVERSEER learned from a public service announcement with reference number: Our Ref: MLAFD/CRS/ADM/GM/VOL01/04, signed by Ntufam Emmanuel Anom,
Commissioner for Livestock, Aquaculture and Fishery Development, on 6th June 2024, that the development is under the first phase and beneficiaries are to cultivate the catfish farms behind their homes.

Anom said the empowerment is for those who are less than four (4) years to retire from service, retirees, widows, vulnerable, out-of-school youths, and unemployed persons.

The Commissioner also stated that those interested should kindly indicate interest at the Department of Fisheries & Aquaculture Development, Ministry of Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries Development, No. 3 Barracks Road, Calabar, not later than 22nd June 2024.

“In fulfilment of His Excellency, the Governor’s campaign promise, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, Executive Governor of Cross River State has approved the training and empowerment of Two Thousand (2000) interested Cross Riverians in Catfish farming (under the first phase) behind their homes.

“Interested persons including civil/public servants with less than four (4) years to retire from service, Retirees, Widows, Vulnerable, out-of-school youths, and unemployed persons are kindly requested to indicate interest at the Department of Fisheries & Aquaculture Development, Ministry of Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries Development, No. 3 Barracks Road, Calabar not later than 22nd June 2024.

“Interest Applicants must have a garden space where fish wastewater will be channelled to, for further agricultural use including vegetable farming.

“Applicants should note that stocked catfishes must be cultured under the Aquaculture industry’s best farming standard, as matured Catfishes will be harvested and processed for export,” the public service announcement read.
