The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has announced the resumption of academic activities following the two-day break given due to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance nationwide protest.
CONVERSEER learned from a memo made available to our newsroom that academic activities will resume on Monday, 5th August 2024.
The memo titled “RESUMPTION OF ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES” with reference number: UC/REG/CIR/64, and signed by Gabriel Egbe, Registrar of UNICAL, on Sunday, 4th August 2024, said the decision to resume academic activities despite the ongoing protest is as a result of ongoing examinations.
The memo which copied the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, Bursar, Director of Quality Assurance, Director of Academic Affairs and Acting CSO, said the examinations will be moved by one day while urging students to use the opportunity to get their Identity (ID) cards.

“This is to inform members of the University community, especially our students, that academic activities resume on Monday, August 5, 2024, as earlier announced; however, the attention of management has been drawn to a few cases of students who are yet to pick up their Identification cards despite repeated directives on this.
“Management, while considering the appeal by these students, has decided to move all the scheduled examinations forward by one day. The implication here is that examinations slated for Monday, August 5, 2024, will now hold on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the same time and venue. All other scheduled examinations shall follow suit. The official timetable for this rescheduling is already out for students and staff to download.
“Students who are yet to get their ID cards are advised to use Monday, August 5, 2024, to get same at designated collection points.
“All Staff and students are to note that there will be no further change in the examination timetable and that the use of identity cards is mandatory for entry into the university campus and examination halls.
“On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, I wish all our students success in their examinations,” the memo read.
