BREAKING NEWS: C’River IPAC suspends chairman indefinitely

Mr Edet Effiom, suspended IPAC Chairman in Cross River (5th left)

The Cross River State Chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has suspended its Chairman, Mr Edet Effiom, indefinitely.

CONVERSEER gathered that the council also passed a vote of no confidence on Effiom before suspending him on Monday, 5th August 2024.

The vote of no confidence was passed by Chairmen of 16 INEC-recognised political parties in the state after a meeting held at the Council’s secretariat in Calabar.

The council, therefore, charged the Deputy Chairman, Rev. Omaleko Efut Omaleko of APGA, to take charge as Acting Chairman of IPAC in the state with immediate effect.

According to a statement by Comrade Frederick Eje Omari, IPAC Secretary in the state, Effiom’s suspension followed his unaccustomed demonstration of high-handedness, lack of consultation, infantile leadership qualities, poor communication skills, and lack of capacity.

The statement also said that Effiom runs IPAC as a sole administrator which is contrary to the Council’s Code of Conduct.

“The Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Cross River State hereby passes a vote of no confidence as well as indefinitely suspend the Chairman, Mr Edet Effiom, with immediate effect.

“The decision to suspend the Chairman indefinitely is due largely to the fact that since his election to this hallowed position, Mr Edet Effiom has demonstrated unaccustomed high handedness, lack of consultation, infantile leadership qualities, poor communication skills, and utter lack of capacity. In short, he runs an elegant political infrastructure as a sole administrator contrary to our IPAC Code of Conduct.

“In the light of the aforementioned anomalies, the undersigned political parties have unanimously endorsed his indefinite suspension as IPAC Chairman and have therefore charged the Deputy Chairman, Rev Omaleko Efut of APGA to take charge in acting capacity with immediate effect.

“We have equally resolved to reposition IPAC to play her usual critical advisory role to the government, especially at this time, that the country and its subnationals are at a crossroads,” the statement read.

CONVERSEER further reports that Effiom willingly accepted the suspension.
