Governor Umo Eno mourns CP Waheed Ayilara

Motorists have been warned against the illegal use of tinted glass, sirens and covered number plates in Akwa Ibom State.  This was disclosed by ASP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer in the state on Wednesday, who said the Commissioner of Police has directed the clampdown and full enforcement on defaulters.  According to the statement by ASP John, the use of tinted glass, sirens and concealed number plates on vehicles constitutes a significant risk to public safety.  "Akwa Ibom State Police Command has issued a warning against the use of illegal tinted glass, siren and concealed number plates on vehicles.  "The Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, has noted with dismay a rise in the use of these items on private and unauthorised vehicles.  "The use of tinted glass, siren and concealed number plates on vehicles constitutes a significant risk to public safety and order in the state. It makes it difficult for law enforcement officials to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities, thereby hindering their efforts to maintain a safe environment for Akwa Ibomites and residents in the State.  "To ensure total compliance with regulations regarding tinted glass, use of siren and concealed number plates, all motorists plying public roads are urged to desist from this practice.  "The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is committed to enforcing the law and has directed a total clampdown on violators.  "We urge members of the public to comply with these regulations and work with law enforcement officials to maintain a safe environment for all. Together, we can make Akwa Ibom State a better place for everyone," the statement read.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has expressed the condolences of the government and the people of Akwa Ibom State on the painful and sudden passing of the Commissioner of Police in the state, late CP Waheed Ayilara.

In a message of condolence released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno eulogised the late Commissioner of Police as “one of the finest operational officers, a genial and fine gentleman who epitomised the finest ideals of the Nigerian Police Force.

“He served our dear state as the Police Commissioner until his sad passing, where he distinguished himself as a crime-buster of no mean repute.

“The late Commissioner of Police was deeply involved with the fabric of our dear state, having served his mandatory National Youth Service here and later came back as the Unit Commander of Police Mobile Unit 26.

“He was a critical member of our state security architecture and, alongside other sister security agencies, worked hard to position our state as one of the safest, most secure, and serene places to live, work, and invest. He will be deeply missed.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, NPM, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, and indeed the entire members of the Akwa Ibom State security community.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Recall that CP Ayilara died in the early hours of Thursday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja while undergoing a prostate cancer operation.
