As Cross River State steps up preparation for the conduct of local government elections, the House of Assembly has confirmed membership of the State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC).
The Assembly also confirmed four persons to constitute the Board of the State Internal Revenue Service.
Chairmen and members of both the State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) and the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service (CRIRS) were confirmed on Tuesday.
A press release signed by Matthew Okache, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Speaker, said the confirmation followed a request from the State government through a letter to the House of Assembly.
Okache said the lawmakers formally confirmed the nomination of Mr. Ekong Edet Bocco as Chairman and Dr. Lawrence Edu Esq, as Secretary of the Electoral Commission.
Members of the body included Mr. Jerry Akabisong, Mrs. Rose Banku, Mr. Adoga Joseph Ipuole, Eutendala Eno, Barr Daniel Edet and Dr. Eyo Otu Eyo.
Also brought on board to oversee the affairs of the State Internal Revenue Service were Prince Edwin Okon, who was confirmed as Chairman, while members include Elder Ndoma Odey, Barr Nta Ekpikem and Mr Francis Peters.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, urged members of the Commission and Revenue Service to “maintain equity, be firm and fair to everyone, and, above all, avoid partisanship.”
