The Government of Cross River State has frowned on the ongoing scarcity of fuel across the state.

In a statement by Ukpong Umoh, Special Adviser to Governor Bassey Otu on Oil and Gas, on Saturday, the government said it would hammer down on all operations of product hoarding and black market profiteering, in order to cushion scarcity and ameliorate sufferings.

“This is to inform the General Public and in particular all Petroleum Dealers/Marketers operating within the State that His Excellency the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu frowns at the unnecessary hardship imposed on the good people of the State as depots and petrol stations are hoarding Petroleum Products thereby causing undue sufferings, exploitation amongst others.

“Following His Excellency’s mantra, ‘The People’s First,’ the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Oil & Gas from today, the 14th day of September 2024 would simmer down on all operations of product hoarding and black market profiteering so as to cushion the effect of the ongoing scarcity and supply/bolstering of black marketers in the State.

“Any station found wanting would be duly sanctioned,” the statement read.

CONVERSEER reports that filling stations in the state are selling petrol up to N1,500 per litre, while black marketers are selling up to N2,500 per litre.
