Glasgow, United Kingdom — Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, and a delegation from Nigeria have arrived in Glasgow to participate in the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly.
The event, taking place from November 4-7, gathers police leaders and security chiefs from 196 member countries, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in combating global crime.
The Nigerian delegation, led by the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, Senator (Dr) Ibrahim Gaidam, includes IGP Egbetokun, Vice President of INTERPOL Africa AIG Garba Umar (retired), CP INTERPOL Olaolu Adegbite, and the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, CP Johnson Adenola.
In addition to attending the assembly sessions, the Nigerian team is set to hold bilateral meetings with Europol officials and representatives from other nations to discuss crucial security issues related to global partnerships, governance, and data processing, as well as strengthening capabilities in combating organised international crime.
IGP Egbetokun expressed hope that the assembly’s outcomes would help fortify the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), where he serves as chairman.
The IGP emphasised the commitment of Nigeria’s INTERPOL unit to active collaboration with other police institutions worldwide, ensuring joint investigations of international crimes to mitigate cross-border threats.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its efforts to curb organised crime both within our borders and across the West African subregion,” IGP Egbetokun stated. “By strengthening our partnerships through INTERPOL, we can more effectively address the evolving nature of transnational crime.”
The Nigerian delegation’s participation in the assembly underscores the country’s ongoing commitment to leveraging global networks to advance security in West Africa and beyond.
The assembly sessions will continue through November 7, as member countries work together to shape the future of international policing.
