Trump Wins 2024 Election After Battleground Sweep, GOP Secures Senate Majority

Washington, D.C. – Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States, an extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, was convicted of felony charges and survived two assassination attempts.

In a fiercely contested 2024 presidential election, the former President emerged victorious over Vice President Kamala Harris, reclaiming the White House with decisive wins across critical battleground states.

Trump’s success in traditionally Democratic states, particularly Pennsylvania and Georgia, proved crucial, edging him past the 270-electoral-vote threshold.

He won the election with 277 electoral votes as against Harris, who came second with 224 votes.

His campaign’s targeted outreach to economically struggling and deindustrialised regions, paired with record voter turnout among men energised by high-profile endorsements, fueled his comeback.

Alongside Trump’s win, Republicans also regained control of the Senate, reclaiming seats in Ohio, West Virginia, and Nebraska. The party won 52 seats against Democrats who won 42.

For the House of Representatives, the Republicans won 198 seats in the Congress against Democrats with 180. Also, the party secured 27 as against Democrats’ 23 for Governor seats.

This shift could grant Trump an easier path to appointing judges and cabinet officials if he assumes office.

While Harris pledged to ensure every vote was counted in ongoing state tallies, her campaign faced an uphill battle as late returns further leaned in Trump’s favour.

The 2024 election underscored deepening political divides and intensified voter enthusiasm across demographics, highlighting the contrasting visions the candidates offered for America’s future.
