Calabar, Cross River State – Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Staff of the Nigerian Army (COAS), who died unexpectedly.
In a heartfelt statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Nsa Gill, Governor Otu described Lt. General Lagbaja’s death as a “devastating blow and a monumental loss not only to the military but to our nation as a whole.”
Governor Otu praised Lt. General Lagbaja’s unwavering commitment and dedication to Nigeria’s security, highlighting the Chief of Army Staff’s bravery and resilience in facing numerous challenges throughout his career.
“He was known for his exemplary leadership and his relentless dedication to safeguarding our nation’s sovereignty,” the governor remarked, emphasising the General’s steadfast service to the Nigerian people.
Reflecting on Lt. General Lagbaja’s impact, Governor Otu commended his strategic vision and relentless pursuit of excellence, calling him an inspiration to all who served alongside him.
“His contributions to the nation’s security and his ability to inspire those under his command were truly exceptional,” Governor Otu noted.
As Nigeria mourns this tragic loss, Governor Otu urged citizens to honour and celebrate the legacy left by the late Chief of Army Staff.
“Lt. General Lagbaja’s legacy of courage, bravery, and dedication will live on, inspiring future generations of Nigerian military personnel,” he said.
On behalf of Cross River State, Governor Otu extended his condolences to Lagbaja’s family and the Nigerian Army, saying, “May his soul rest in peace, and may we find solace in the memories of his service to our nation.”
