Governor Otu Appoints Dr David Ushie as Technical Advisor on UHC

Calabar, Nigeria – Governor Bassey Otu has approved the appointment of Dr David Edem Ushie as Technical Advisor on Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

According to a press release signed by Mr Nsa Gill, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor on November 6, and made available to Converseer on November 25, Dr Ushie would be attached to the State Planning Commission, with powers to facilitate the commission’s oversight function of driving the relevant Ministries, Developments and Agencies (MDAs) towards attaining UHC.

The press statement added that Ushie is expected, among other assignments, to work closely and in coordination with the State Planning Commission.

The release further listed Ushie’s job descriptions as follows:

1. To identify the key public health policy priorities of Prince Bassey Otu’s administration.

2. To coordinate a strong policy and operations synergy between all relevant MDAs in the State’s drive towards UHC.

3. To identify policy/field operations gaps and work with the relevant individuals/institutions to achieve sustainable system strengthening.

4. To maintain an active register of Key Performance Indicators (KPls) relating to the activities of all MDAs relevant to the achievement of UHC.

5. To work with the MDAs and relevant third parties to facilitate the launch of the informal sector of the CRS affordable healthcare programme.

6. To facilitate multi-sectoral resource mobilisation in support of the relevant MDAs towards achieving UHC.

“A full detail of his assignment is contained in the approval given to the Chief Executive Officer and the Vice Chairman of the State Planning Commission,” the statement maintained.
