Nigerians Troll Governor Okpebholo After Goofing on Budget Presentation, Dig Up His WAEC Result

Benin, Nigeria – Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo is on hot seat as Nigerians troll him on social media following his budget presentation in the State House of Assembly.

According to the video from NTA which has gone viral, Okpebholo made the blunder while calling the figures of the 2025 budget to the House on Tuesday.

The Governor who goofed during the presentation finally presented the proposed budget estimate of N605 billion to the Assembly, titled “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo.” He said it represents 25% of the 2024 budget.

Before that, Senator Okpebholo who shocked the House of Assembly said, “The Edo State 2025 Appropriation Bill of 6 billion… 650… 605 billion… 76 thou… 76 million… Let me take it again. 506 billion… 605 billion… sorry… 776 billion… sorry, it’s confusing me.”

In an X (formerly Twitter) post by Punch Newspaper on December 10, Okpebholo’s gesture didn’t go unnoticed by Nigerians who trolled the APC Governor.

They even dug out Monday Okpebholo’s West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) result where he allegedly had E8 in Government. See comments below:

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo – a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the state’s 2024 governorship election, over Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party.

During his pronunciation saga, an uproar erupted in the House before the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, called for order, saying, “Order the House, please. Mr Speaker must be heard in silence, please.”

Okpebholo concluded, “605 billion and details of the budget proposed… proposal for your consideration and approval. Thank you for your kind consideration.”

According to Punch, the governor disclosed that N223bn, or 37 per cent of the total N605bn budget, would be dedicated to recurrent expenditure. The remaining N381bn, which represents 63 per cent, is allocated to capital projects.
