London, UK – The English Football Association (FA) has announced the adoption of Video Assistant Referees (VAR) starting from the fifth round of the 2024-25 Emirates FA Cup.
In an official statement captioned “VAR Confirmed for Emirates FA Cup from Fifth Round Onward,” the FA revealed that the technology would be implemented in all matches from the fifth round to the final at Wembley Stadium.
The FA explained that the move aims to promote consistency in officiating across matches. “This decision ensures that there is a consistent refereeing approach for all clubs taking part in the same stage of the competition,” the statement read.
However, it was clarified that VAR would not be used during the third and fourth rounds of the competition, citing logistical and cost-related factors.
Due to infrastructure challenges, VAR was limited to matches at Wembley and Premier League venues in previous tournaments.
With this development, stakeholders and fans anticipate improved officiating standards as the prestigious cup competition progresses.
