Asaba, Nigeria – The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda S. Olufemi, PSC, has unveiled a series of achievements under his leadership since assuming office in February 2024.

During a press briefing held in Asaba, the Commissioner detailed the Command’s successes in combating crime, ensuring public safety, and recovering arms and ammunition.

Operations and Arrests

1. Kidnapping Case Foiled: On 27 November 2024, police rescued two kidnap victims in Asaba, recovered arms, and seized the suspects’ operational vehicle.

2. Armed Robbery Bust: A sting operation on 2 December 2024 led to the arrest of ten suspects and the recovery of firearms linked to house robberies across Delta State.

3. Murder and Ritualist Arrest: Police apprehended a suspect involved in the murder of an eight-year-old boy in Owa-Alero. The investigation is ongoing to locate an accomplice.

4. Bank Robbery Syndicate: On 25 November 2024, two suspects notorious for targeting bank customers in Asaba were arrested.

Special Cases

Rape and Defilement: Arrests were made in cases involving the sexual assault of women and minors in Asaba and Oleh communities.

Child Murder: A mother confessed to drowning her 10-month-old child in Aviara due to societal pressures.

Stolen Bus Recovery: Police intercepted suspects who stole a luxury bus in Aba, Abia State, and attempted to sell it in Warri.

Arrests: 678 suspects, including 131 armed robbers, 88 kidnappers, and 54 rape/defilement suspects.

Rescued Victims: 48 kidnapped individuals.

Recovered Arms: 150 firearms, including 32 AK-47/49 rifles and 27 Beretta pistols, with 5,042 rounds of ammunition seized.

Vehicles Recovered: 27 stolen vehicles retrieved.

Commissioner’s Remarks

CP Olufemi attributed these successes to cooperation with other security agencies and the public. He called on parents to monitor their male children, as statistics showed 85% of suspects were young males.

The CP also emphasised compliance with the ban on tinted vehicles and fireworks to ensure a crime-free festive season. Residents were urged to report suspicious activities via the Command’s control room numbers.

The Commissioner assured Deltans of the Command’s dedication to maintaining peace and security during the yuletide.
