Washington, U.S. – Former US President Bill Clinton, 78, was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, on Monday, two days to Christmas, after experiencing a fever.
His deputy chief of staff, Angel Ureña, confirmed the hospitalisation in a statement, noting that Clinton remains in good spirits and is grateful for the care he is receiving.
A source familiar with the situation described it as “not urgent,” stating that Clinton is alert and doing well. The fever is suspected to be related to dehydration, and the former president is expected to be discharged as early as Tuesday.
Clinton has a history of health concerns, including a 2004 quadruple heart bypass surgery and a 2010 procedure to insert stents in a clogged artery. In 2021, he was hospitalised for a urinary tract infection that developed into sepsis but recovered after a week of treatment.
In recent months, Clinton has been actively involved in public engagements, including campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris and publishing his memoir, Citizen: My Life After the White House. A thriller novel co-written with James Patterson, titled The First Gentleman, is set for release next year.
Clinton’s hospitalisation comes amid a busy schedule, but he remains optimistic about returning home before Christmas, according to Ureña.
