Calabar, Nigeria – The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law.
The budget, titled the “Budget of Sustainable Growth,” was presented to the Cross River State House of Assembly on October 29, 2024, with a total allocation of ₦538 billion.
The budget consists of ₦333 billion for capital expenditure and ₦202 billion for recurrent expenditure.
The Governor, during the signing ceremony held late on Christmas Eve in Calabar, stated that the budget aims to drive economic growth and enhance sustainable progress across key sectors in the state.
“We are energised and fully prepared to deliver on our promise of effective service to the people. Together, let’s build a brighter future,” Governor Otu said.
Sectoral allocations include:
- Aviation: ₦16 billion
- Special Duties/Intergovernmental Affairs: ₦15 billion
- Power: ₦14 billion
- Agriculture: ₦11 billion
- Tourism: ₦5 billion
- Science, Technology, and Innovation: ₦4.7 billion
- Women Affairs: ₦3.7 billion
- Information: ₦3 billion
- Others: ₦181.6 billion
Governor Otu was accompanied by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem; Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Cyril James Omini; and the Special Adviser on Budget, Mr Otu Otu Ita.
This development is expected to usher in significant progress for Cross River State in 2025.
