The chairman and CEO of Tenable Holdings, based in Columbia, passed away on January 3, according to the cybersecurity firm.
Amit Yoran, who guided the company through significant growth and its initial public offering in 2018, succumbed to cancer, Tenable announced on Saturday. He had been with the company as CEO since 2016 and was 54 years old.
“His deep commitment to cybersecurity, strategic insight, and ability to motivate those around him have significantly influenced Tenable’s culture and objectives,” stated Art Coviello, Tenable’s lead independent director, in the announcement. “His legacy will continue to inspire us as we progress.”
Yoran took a medical leave beginning on December 5. During his absence, Tenable’s board appointed Steve Vintz, the chief financial officer, and Mark Thurmond, the chief operating officer, to serve as co-CEOs. The company will continue under their leadership while the board searches for a new CEO. Coviello will assume the role of chairman.
Prior to joining Tenable, Yoran was the president of RSA Security and the founding CEO of NetWitness.
A graduate in computer science from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Yoran had a passion for riding motorcycles and referred to Tenable as a mission-driven company in a Baltimore Sun feature in 2023.
“The cybersecurity work that we do is crucial,” Yoran told The Sun. “It holds significance for our clients and the world. We hold that responsibility in high regard, which fosters a strong sense of dedication among our entire team.”
