Alex Iwobi was left disappointed despite scoring a brace in Fulham’s 3-2 defeat to West Ham United, the Super Eagles midfielder, who played a key role in his team’s attack, lamented the mistakes that cost Fulham the game.
The London derby, filled with anticipation, saw Fulham lose due to defensive errors from goalkeeper Bernd Leno and midfielder Andreas Pereira, which allowed West Ham to capitalize and score two easy goals under manager Graham Potter.
Speaking after the match, Iwobi reflected on the team’s mistakes and his brace.
“We created so many chances and hit the woodwork twice. We felt we could have scored more, but if you don’t defend as a team, and make these mistakes, in the Premier League, everyone can punish you. We just need to cut out the errors, and I’m sure we’ll get results against teams like West Ham,” Iwobi said to Fulham TV.
While Iwobi’s brace came in a similar fashion—crosses that evaded everyone and found the back of the net—the midfielder admitted he didn’t intend to score. Instead, he was aiming to set up teammates like Raul Jimenez and Harry Wilson.

“I wasn’t trying to score. I was aiming for my teammates, just trying to create chances,” Iwobi explained. “As long as we’re creating chances and scoring, I’m happy. The most important thing is the three points, and that’s what we need to focus on.”
