Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has assured residents that the long-awaited construction of the 17-kilometre Sango-Ijoko road will soon commence, signaling relief for a community plagued by deplorable infrastructure.
Speaking on Monday during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Ifo Local Government Area, Abiodun revealed a plan to divide the road into two manageable sections of eight kilometers each.
“We started from the Sango area, but the remaining 17 kilometers have been pending,” the governor stated. “Now, we’ve decided to split it into two sections to ensure faster and more efficient delivery.”
Abiodun also announced that the 3.25-kilometre Alagbole-Ajuwon-Akute road, a critical route for residents, will be ready for commissioning by the end of February.
“About four months ago, we visited this area because the state of roads in Ifo 2 was brought to our attention,” he said, recounting the community’s concerns over roads like Alagbole-Ajuwon, Denro-Ishashi-Akute, Ijoko-Sango, and Lambe.
“I promised the people that within a few months, they would see progress. Today, Alagbole-Akute is 100 percent completed and ready for commissioning. Work on Ajuwon-Akute is ongoing, and by God’s grace, it will be fully completed by February’s end.”
The governor underscored the importance of these projects, highlighting the role of the border communities in Ogun’s relationship with Lagos.
“This constituency is critical to us because it is our border community with Lagos state,” Abiodun noted. “There’s a significant amount of cross-border migration, and it’s our responsibility to ensure that this experience is as smooth and pleasurable as possible for our citizens. That’s our 100 percent commitment.”
While reaffirming his dedication to infrastructure development, Abiodun urged residents to take ownership of the roads and ensure their proper maintenance.
“Please, use these roads responsibly so they can serve their intended purpose for many years to come,” he appealed.
For years, the residents of Ifo LGA have endured hardship navigating dilapidated roads that cripple transportation and economic activities. With Governor Abiodun’s renewed focus on border infrastructure, hopes are high that the long-overdue upgrades will finally transform the area into a model for inter-state connectivity.
