Following the incessant increase of fee charges across the board coupled with the harsh economy being faced by the country, Hon. Peter Akpanke, a lawmaker in Cross River has put a smile on the faces of 12 of his constituents.

The 12 constituents are law school students and Akpanke who represents Obanliku/Bekwarra/Obudu Federal Constituency in the National Assembly has given each of them the sum of N200,000, surmounting to a total of N2,400,000.

According to Comrade Akobi Nelson, SSA Students Affairs to Rep Akpanke, the money was presented in cash to the students by the Member of the Parliament, MP.

Akobi said the gesture was part of Akpanke’s promise during his campaign to contribute to the growth and development of education in the area.

In his speech, the lawmaker charged the beneficiaries to be worthy ambassadors of the Constituency.

He noted that the financial assistance is without political or ethnic affiliations but to assist and cushion the effects of hardship occasioned by the removal of petroleum subsidy in the country.

“We cherish education and one of the ways through which we can impact our society is to give unfettered access to education and assist our students,” Akpanke said.

He charged them to be exceptional ambassadors not only of the legal profession but also of their federal constituency, urging them to use their legal knowledge and prospective expertise to positively impact their respective communities, in order to promote justice and equity in the society.

CONVERSEER reports that two students are from Obanliku, four from Bekwarra and six from Obudu.
