ABAKALIKI – The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has launched a ₦1 billion empowerment programme to support 500 Ebonyi residents across the country with ₦2 million each.
The initiative is aimed at helping beneficiaries translate their skills and talents into profitable ventures and boost their businesses.
The programme, flagged off on Tuesday, was announced by Mr Leo Oketa, the Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor. He stated that the first batch of beneficiaries comprises Ebonyi citizens engaged in various menial jobs in different cities across Nigeria.
Vocational Training for Self-Development
According to Mr Oketa, the state government has carefully profiled the beneficiaries and created a conducive environment at the State’s Vocational Training Centre for their self-development. The initiative is overseen by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Skill Development and Job Creation.
“The programme provides the tools and resources necessary for these individuals to refine their skills and pursue sustainable livelihoods,” Mr Oketa noted.
Commitment to People’s Charter of Needs
Governor Nwifuru’s administration is committed to fulfilling its promises to Ebonyi citizens, as outlined in the People’s Charter of Needs.
The empowerment programme is part of the state’s broader strategy to support economic growth and reduce unemployment by equipping citizens with practical skills and financial resources.
The beneficiaries are expected to use the funds to expand their businesses and contribute to the economic development of Ebonyi State.
