SA Youths Mobilisation Lauds Governor Otu for Appointing Prof. Bassey as Acting VC of UNICROSS

CALABAR – The Special Adviser to Governor Bassey Otu on Youths Mobilisation, HY Chief Dan Obo, has commended the Governor for appointing Prof. Francisca Bassey as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS).

Commenting on the appointment on Wednesday, Obo said Governor Otu is always good at making choices that will bring development to the state.

Obo, who is also the Convener of De-Caucus, described the appointment of Prof. Bassey as “a round peg in a round hole,” noting that with the happenings in the last few years, UNICROSS has finally seen someone with the capacity to help catapult it to the top ranks of universities in Nigeria.

“His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu is someone who does not take excellence for granted, and for him to put Professor Francisca Bassey at the helm of affairs of our dear UNICROSS, it means we’re going to see massive change,” Obo said.

For the new Acting VC, Obo said, “We all know her track record when she was at the University of Calabar. She did well in her time as Head of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, she brought in innovation as the first female Director of the Centre for General Studies (GSS), and lots more.

“In the time when students were struggling to gain admission through JAMB, she brought more innovation to the Pre-degree programme as the pioneer Director of the Directorate of Pre-Degree Programme. She also did well as the Deputy Dean of Sciences. So, you see why the Governor appointed her the Acting VC.

“I am very certain that she will change the narratives and make UNICROSS enviable to all.”

The former State National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Chairman also extended his congratulations to the new Governing Council of the University headed by Dr. Fidelis Ugbo as Pro-Chancellor.
