At least eight operatives attached to the Anambra State Special Anti-Tout Squad are feared de@d and others injured after their vehicle rammed into a tipper fully loaded with sand.
The accident occurred along the Onitsha-Owerri Road axis of Oba in the Idemili South Local Government Area of the state on Friday afternoon, Jan. 31.
Some reports claim the anti-tout squad were speeding in a branded Toyota Hiace bus during their daily stop-and-search operation when they rammed into the tipper which was coming out from another junction of the road.
Others allege that the squad was chasing the tipper.
After the collision, the bodies of the operatives were trapped in the vehicle and passers-by got to work, bringing out their bodies and placing by the side of the road.
While some had sadly d!ed, the injured ones were rushed to the hospital.
A video from the scene is currently circulating on social media.
Nigerians have gone on X to react.
One X user wrote: “I just passed the scene of the Anti Tout accident at Oba, and all I can say is, There are some jobs you don’t take, no matter what.
“Why Anti Tout go dey pursue tipper, na their job?Will Anambra State Government that sent them take care of the family they all left behind?”
