Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has described Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, as “evil” and accused him of repeatedly attempting to have him arrested.
According to Sowore, Adejobi tried to orchestrate his arrest on several occasions, but his efforts were thwarted.
The 2023 presidential candidate under the African Action Congress (AAC), made the statement during a Sunday X space tagged ‘SoworeGospels: Police extortion and the illegality of IGP Egbetokun.’
He said, “Muyiwa was the one who tried to force the police to arrest me several times but everybody refused and they later got head of Force Intelligence Department (FID), Deputy Inspector General of Police, Dasuki D. Galadanchi to invite me and when I appeared, they arrested me.
“All was the handiwork of Muyiwa but they didn’t know it would be a blow to their faces. They didn’t know they were playing with the wrong people.”
The activist also accused Adejobi of wielding undue influence over his superiors within the police force.
“Muyiwa is so obsessed with power that even his superiors; Assistant Inspector Generals (AIGs) and Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), he ordered them to go and do things because he is close to the Nigerian Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and they have no option but to listen to him.”
He further criticised the Nigeria Police Force and expressed his intention to change its name to “Police Centre” or “Department,” arguing that “force” is a term used to oppress the people.
Sowore shared a troubling incident on the day of his release, revealing that a parent had been waiting at Deji Adeyanju and Partners law firm because their son had been allegedly abducted by Adejobi.
“One of their sons was abducted by Muyiwa because he posted on Facebook that if the wife of the retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, who was abducted must have done his work well, his wife wouldn’t have been a victim of kidnapping and he is still in detention,” Sowore added.
He also highlighted the case of Destiny Ekhurutomwem, a blogger from Edo state and others whom he said had been kidnapped by Adejobi, underscoring the extent of what he believes to be a pattern of abuse within the police force.
SaharaReporters reported last week how Justice Musa Suleiman Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to Sowore in the sum of N10 million with one surety of the same amount.
The court also ruled that the surety must have verified landed property in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the applicant must deposit his passport with the court and provide an affidavit of means.
Sowore, who has been undergoing legal proceedings, was initially required to meet the bail conditions within a set timeframe. However, the court granted him a 24-hour extension to fulfill the terms.
