Killer Mike has filed a lawsuit over his arrest at last year’s Grammy Awards, pointing the finger at the private security firms hired to manage the event. The rapper claims he was unlawfully detained and publicly humiliated despite having proper credentials and being an award winner at the ceremony.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Killer Mike says security personnel stopped him as he headed to the red carpet for photos and interviews. He alleges the two companies responsible for event security, S&S Labor Force Inc. and JRM Private Security, gave their employees excessive authority, leading to what he describes as an unlawful “citizen’s arrest.”
Killer Mike asserts that security staff physically restrained him in front of onlookers, causing emotional distress and public embarrassment. He claims their actions led to his arrest by law enforcement, forcing him to spend hours in a nearby jail and miss his opportunity to present a Grammy award during the live broadcast.
The rapper was ultimately released from custody after the event, and prosecutors later declined to press charges against him. However, Killer Mike says the incident caused lasting damage to his reputation and career. He is now seeking damages from the security companies, holding them accountable for what he describes as unnecessary humiliation and professional harm.
