Railway Workers Postpone Planned Strike to Collaborate with Opeifa

The two labour unions of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) have shelved their planned strike and resolved to partner with the new management put in place by President Bola Tinubu.

The Managing Director of NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, stated this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

He said the labour leaders passed the resolution after a meeting with the management where all their grievances were tabled for discussion.

The NRC boss described the maiden meeting with the union leaders as productive with mutual understanding of all issues raised.

Opeifa noted that some matters raised by the unions were assigned for further discussion at the directorate level.

He, however, said the issue surrounding the medical personnel allowance had been resolved.

“The unions have reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate with the management and provide all the necessary support to ensure that train services operate at maximum efficiency, to boost the growth of the sector.

“Their contribution will also reduce the prices of goods and services to achieve Mr. President’s mandate.”

Earlier, the National President of the National Union of Railway Workers (NUR), Comrade Innocent Ajiji, commended Opeifa for his frankness.

He thanked the MD for listening to their grievances, saying the union would hold tenaciously to the promises extracted from him during the meeting.
