Liberia’s campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2026-2027 term is gaining momentum, following endorsement from the African Union (AU).
Lewis Brown, Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, confirmed the AU’s support, emphasizing that securing the seat would amplify Africa’s voice in global peace and security affairs.
As a founding member of the UN, Liberia last held a Security Council seat in 1961. If successful, this bid would mark a historic return to a key decision-making role in international diplomacy.
