Petros Theodorakis, president of the Greek Association of Marseille, was awarded the Gold Medal of the Volunteer Order of Bouches-du-Rhone in southern France during a ceremony recognizing 38 years of dedication to the local Greek community.

Theodorakis joined the association’s board in 1986, serving in various roles, including counselor, secretary and vice president, before becoming president in March 2020. Reflecting on his tenure, he acknowledged the challenges of leading during the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasized his commitment to celebrating Greek heritage in Marseille and beyond.

“This medal is not just for me but for all members of the association,” Theodorakis said. “Together, we can be proud of this recognition.”

The award, a respected local civic honor, was presented by Martine Vassal, president of the Bouches-du-Rhône department, and Lionel de Cala, a departmental councilor.
