AEK and PAOK Net Five Goals While Reds and Greens Falter

Huge night for Aris at home on Sunday, as it beat Panathinaikos 2-0 [Intime].

AEk has halved its distance from leader Olympiakos at the top of the Super League table, as it won comfortably at home on Sunday while the Reds dropped two points in Piraeus and Panathinaikos lost at Aris.

Asteras Tripolis snatched a precious point at Olympiakos on Sunday, drawing 1-1 at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in a very entertaining game.

Nikos Kaltsas put the visitors ahead from the fourth minute. Olympiakos equalized on the 11th with Chiquinho, but could not find a winner in the rest of the match.

Therefore AEK, winner of Panserraikos with a 5-0 score in Athens, has now come within two points from the Reds, with the two teams meeting at AEK’s home ground in three weeks’ time, besides their upcoming Cup dates in the semifinals.

Despite playing behind closed doors at Nea Filadelfia, AEK easily dismissed Panserraikos, goals coming from Orbelin Pineda, Anthony Martial (twice) and Robert Ljubicic (also twice).

Panathinaikos has lost some precious ground in the title race going down 2-0 at a superior Aris on Sunday. The Thessaloniki team scored with Kike Saverio and Loren Moron for a deserved victory that keeps it three points behind crosstown rival PAOK, that was impressive in Crete on Saturday.

Host OFI was left with 10 men from the 12th minute and PAOK ran riot, winning 5-0 at Iraklio, courtesy of a brace by Mbwana Samatta and goals from Dimitris Pelkas, Stefan Schwab and Giannis Michailidis.

Earlier on Sunday Panetolikos won 1-0 at Volos to rise to seventh.

On Monday Atromitos hosts Athens Kallithea and Lamia entertains Levadiakos.

Olympiakos has 48 points, AEK reached 46, Panathinaikos stayed at 43, PAOK climbed to 40, Aris is on 37 and Asteras on 35.
