A Thessaloniki appeals court has reduced the sentence of a 59-year-old man for the repeated rape and sexual abuse of his partner’s daughter from 18 to eight years.

The court accepted the defendant’s subsequent good behavior as a mitigating factor.

The case came to light in 2022, when the then 14-year-old victim confided in a friend about the abuse she was subjected to. The friend then informed the victim’s mother, who informed the authorities.

The girl told psychologists that her stepfather abused her a total of seven times in their Central Macedonian home when her mother was absent.

The defendant denied the charges, claiming he was being victimized by the girl’s friend because he had refused to hire him in his business.
