Under Igbo Customary Law, Bride Price Payment Validates Paternity, Not DNA – Lawyer Stan Alieke

Nigerian lawyer, Stan ALieke, says that under the customary law in Igboland, it is the bride price that validates the paternity of a child and not even the result from a DNA test carried out.

In a post shared on his Instastories, Alieke further stated that if a man is yet to pay the bride price on the mother of his child, the child will be presumed a ‘’b@strd or fatherless.”

He also stated that the father of a child will not be allowed to take the child until he pays the bride price of the mom even if the woman is de@d.
