Nigeria’s national power grid has collapsed for the second time in 2025, leaving homes and businesses across Lagos State and other major cities in darkness.
The latest collapse occurred at 11:34 am on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, according to Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.
The company wrote: “Dear Esteemed Customer, Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today 12th February, 2025 at 11:34hrs affecting all our feeders.
“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders,” the company added.
This was also confirmed by National Grid’s X page which wrote: “There was a “GRID DISTURBANCE” before noon today. Parts of the country experienced outages.
Further information shortly.”
This development marks the 14th grid failure in the past 14 months, sparking widespread frustration among Nigerians. The grid collapse has resulted in a significant drop in power generation, with reports indicating that generation plummeted from 2,111.01 megawatts to 390.20 megawatts.

The situation caused a nationwide blackout to major households and industries in the country.
In a similar report in November 2024, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced on Tuesday that the national grid experienced a partial disturbance at about 1:52 pm (today).
This was made known in a statement issued by Ndidi Mbah, TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, in which the company explained that the disturbance was triggered by a series of line and generator trippings, which led to instability in the grid.
Mbah said the data from the National Control Centre (NCC) revealed that a part of the grid was not affected by the bulk power disruption.
