Maresca Confirms Jorgensen as Chelsea’s Top Goalkeeper Choice

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Filip Jorgensen has replaced Robert Sanchez as the club’s number-one goalkeeper. The decision comes as Maresca aims to restore momentum in the Premier League following a series of setbacks.

Sanchez, 27, has struggled with costly errors throughout the season, including a critical mistake in last month’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City. Jorgensen, a Denmark under-21 international, was handed a starting role in Chelsea’s 2-1 league victory over West Ham but was replaced by Sanchez for the FA Cup loss to Brighton.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s league clash against Brighton on Friday, February 14, Maresca confirmed that Jorgensen, 22, is now his first choice. He emphasized that the decision was made to give Sanchez time to recover both mentally and physically but made it clear that he does not intend to rotate goalkeepers game by game.

Despite Chelsea’s dip in form since December, Maresca remains optimistic about their progress. He highlighted the team’s strong position in the league and the Conference League, stating that their journey has been “fantastic” so far. He also noted that Chelsea, after missing out on the top four in the past two seasons, have spent most of the current campaign in a Champions League qualification spot, proving they are moving in the right direction.

With the season entering its crucial phase, Maresca is determined to secure Chelsea’s return to Europe’s elite competition.
