Senegal Intensifies Battle Against Counterfeit Currency, Seizing Over 2 Billion CFA Francs

Senegalese authorities have intensified efforts to combat financial crimes with the recent seizure of more than 2 billion CFA francs in counterfeit notes. This operation marks a significant step in strengthening the country’s financial security.

Two suspects were arrested in possession of the counterfeit money and are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the network involved in the circulation of fake currency.

This latest operation follows a similar crackdown in April 2023, when law enforcement intercepted over 1 billion CFA francs in counterfeit notes. The recurrence of such large-scale seizures highlights the persistent challenge of financial fraud in the region.

Officials have reiterated their commitment to dismantling illicit networks and prosecuting those responsible.
