Gambian Court Issues Warrant for Alleged Ex-Hit Squad Member Under Former Leader Yahya Jammeh

A Gambian court has issued an arrest warrant for Sanna Manjang, a former military officer linked to the “Junglers,” notorious hit squad that operated under the regime of former President Yahya Jammeh.

The group is alleged of committing numerous human rights violations, including killings, disappearances, and torture, during Jammeh’s 22 years in power.

The arrest order was made after Gambian police, acting on a request from Interpol, confirmed Manjang’s fugitive status. He is wanted for crimes allegedly committed from 1994, the year of Jammeh’s coup, until 2017, when Jammeh was defeated in the presidential elections and went into exile.

Manjang’s name has been repeatedly mentioned by witnesses in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, where he was described as a feared figure responsible for heinous acts, including murder and other violence acts

Following Jammeh’s defeat, Manjang fled the country and has since been living in exile.
