The Georgian Orthodox Church is committed to helping those who are suffering from the heavy snowfall this week.
Western Georgia has been especially hit by severe snowfall, resulting in a public emergency with multiple villages isolated, buildings damaged, and several weather-related deaths reported. Infrastructure has suffered significant damage, leaving thousands without electricity and many roads impassable. Emergency services have struggled to reach affected areas, while the government has deployed military assistance and volunteers have organized to provide aid.
In a state issued on Wednesday, the Church pledged its help in supplying various necessities.
The statement reads:
The heavy snowfall in western Georgia has brought severe consequences for our people and the country in general. Unfortunately, there are casualties as well.
The government, rescue services, and volunteers… everyone is trying to assist those caught in the disaster zone.
By the decision of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, food products, clothing, medications, warm blankets, and other items will be sent from the Georgian Patriarchate to those affected.
May God bless those in the disaster zone, may God bless all of Georgia and protect it from tribulations.
P.S. Thanks to the charity foundation Aversi for their support.
