Video: Bill Murray says Nixon was ‘framed’ in rare interview

Hollywood star Bill Murray recently suggested that former President Richard Nixon may have been “framed” by journalist Bob Woodward.

A video from Murray’s recent appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” shows Murray’s critique of Woodward’s book, “Wired: The Short Life & Fast Times of John Belushi.”

According to The Post Millennial, Murray and Joe Rogan discussed Nixon and the Watergate scandal during the recent podcast episode and Rogan suggested that Nixon’s impeachment could have included other factors besides the famous political scandal. The popular podcast host also pointed out that Woodward, who was one of the main journalists responsible for exposing the Watergate scandal, had worked in the intelligence community prior to his career in journalism.

The Post Millennial reported that while Murray told Rogan he is not a fan of the former president, his perspective regarding Woodward’s journalistic integrity changed after reading a small portion of his biography on John Belushi. According to Deadline, Belushi was an actor and comedian who reportedly died in 1982 from an overdose of cocaine and heroin.

“When I read ‘Wired’—the book written by, what’s his name, Woodward—about Belushi, I read like five pages of ‘Wired,’ and I went, ‘Oh my God. They framed Nixon,’” Murray told Rogan. “If this is what he writes about my friend that I’ve known for half of my adult life—which is completely inaccurate—talking to like the people of the outer, outer circle getting the story, what the hell could they have done to Nixon?”

“I acknowledge that I only read five pages, but the five pages I read made me want to set fire to the whole thing,” the iconic actor added. “Those five pages, I went, ‘If he did this to Belushi, what he did to Nixon is probably soiled for me, too.’”

During his interview with Rogan, Murray criticized the sources Woodward used for his book on the life of Belushi, arguing that it was “criminal” and “cruel” for the journalist to use people “far outside the inner circle” as sources for his book.

“I can’t take it,” Murray said. “And I know you say, ‘Well, you could have two sources and everything like that.’ But the two sources that he had, if he had them for the ‘Wired’ book, were so far outside the inner circle that it was it was criminal, cruel.”
