The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, has confirmed the abduction of four students from the Federal University Dutsinma by bandits in the early hours of Sunday, March 2.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 4, DSP Sadiq stated that one of the abducted students had been rescued due to the persistent efforts of security operatives.
“Yes, four of them were kidnapped, but our men’s persistent efforts rescued one. At the same time, efforts are being intensified to rescue the remaining three,” he said.
The attack reportedly took place around 2:20 am on Sunday when bandits, armed with sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, stormed Paris Quarters, a student residential area behind the university. The assailants abducted the victims before fleeing into the bush.
Security operatives were mobilized to the scene following a distress call, but the kidnappers had already escaped with the students. Dutsinma Local Government Area is one of Katsina State’s security frontline zones, frequently targeted by bandits despite efforts by both state and federal authorities to curb criminal activities in the region.
