Former Super Eagles striker Julius Aghahowa has weighed in on the Amavubi of Rwanda recent coaching change ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
Both Nigeria and Rwanda have made managerial changes, adding an element of unpredictability to the upcoming encounter. The Super Eagles are now under the leadership of Eric Chelle, while Rwanda has appointed Adel Amrouche as their new head coach.
Speaking to Brila Media, Aghahowa pointed out that the transition could go either way for Nigeria, as a new coach often brings uncertainty to a team’s setup.
“Players want to prove themselves to a new coach, so it could be a disadvantage for us. However, it could also work in our favour if their coach decides to experiment,” Aghahowa stated.

The former Super Eagles forward also noted that a mid-campaign coaching change can be risky, as players might struggle to adapt to new tactics or formations, potentially disrupting team cohesion.
“Sometimes, when a new coach comes in, he tries to impose a different philosophy, and that takes time. If that happens with Rwanda, it could backfire on them,” he added.

The Super Eagles, who have had a shaky start in their qualification campaign, cannot afford to drop points as they face Rwanda in Kigali before hosting Zimbabwe in Uyo.
