The African Union (AU) has signed a €20 million financing agreement with the European Union (EU) under the AU-EU Partnership Performance Acceleration Programme (AUPPAP) to enhance institutional capacity building across the continent.
According to an AU statement released on Wednesday, the programme aims to strengthen governance and drive integrated development in Africa. It builds on existing EU support and coincides with the 25th anniversary of the AU-EU partnership.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Fathallah Sijilmassi, Director General of the AU Commission, emphasized that the agreement will contribute to African integration and sustainable development, in line with the AU’s mission and vision.
AUPPAP which is aligned with AU Agenda 2063 and the joint AU-EU Vision for 2030, is expected t accelerate the implementation of strategic initiatives in key sectors such as economic growth, digital transformation, connectivity, and energy.
The two-year programme is designed around shared objectives, reinforcing AU flagship projects and partnership priorities.
